If you would like more information on eye care

Eye Exam

An eye exam is carried out ny an Optometrist/Optician. Usually it can take up to 20-30 minutes and sometimes longer if extra tests are needed. It is recommended that an eye examination is carried out every 2 years.

Some patients with certain medical conditions i.e. Diabetics, may require more frequent tests.

During an eye exam the external and internal structures of the eye are inspected with our state of the art equipment.

Our Retinal Camera allows us to view the back of the eye (Retina) under high magnification.

Our Visual Field Analyser is used to examine the patients peripheral vision.

Eye Pressures are measured using our Tonometer. This procedure detects for signs of Glaucoma, in which the pressure inside the eye has become raised.

If you are a medical card holder, over the age of 16, or if you qualify under your PRSI, you are entitled to a free eye test once every two years and to an allowance off spectacles if required. Please do not hesitate to contact the practice with any queries or to complete the medical card/PRSI application.

Spectacles

Spectacles are used to correct different visual problems. These include;

  • Long-sightedness ( Hyperopia)

  • Short-sightedness (Myopia)

  • Astigmatisim; and

  • Presbyopia (affects near vision after the age of 40)

There are many lenses which correct visual problems and these include;

  • Single Vision Lenses - corrects either distance or near vision;

  • Bifocal Lenses - which correct distance and near vision in a single lens; or

  • Varifocal Lenses - which correct distance, near and intermediate distances

Lenses may be uncoated or they may have an anti reflective coating on them

which reduces the amount of glare entering the eyes from over head or on coming

lights.

Transition Lenses adjust automatically to different light conditions, darkening

when outside in uv light and lightening when indoors, filtering just the right

amount of light

Polarised Lenses eliminate 100% of all reflective glare and are particularly

effective for;

  • Driving;

  • Sking;

  • Fishing;

  • Watersports; and

  • Many other outdoor activities.

Hi Index Lenses are slimmer and lighter lenses, They enhance the cosmetic

appearance of high powered perscriptions.

Contact Lenses

Contact Lenses are a great alternative to wearing spectacles. There are many types of contact lenses available. The most popular type are soft disposable contact lenses. These may be monthly, fortnightly or daily disposables.

Toric Contact Lenses correct astigmatism and Multifocal Contact Lenses correct both distance and near vision.

Once we have decided on the correct lens, we then give all our patients one to one training on handling and cleaning their lenses

Contact Lens checkups are very important for all wearers and it is a legal requirement to have a lens checkup at least once a year.

We stock the top brands in contact lenses, including;

  • Alcon;

  • Bausch & Lomb;
